WESTBURY banished all thoughts of last Saturday's 81-5 mauling at the hands of Devizes with a vital win in this Dorset and Wilts encounter at Leighton Green.

Coach Jon Parker hailed the attitude of his players as they responded with six tries to steer further clear of relegation trouble.

Parker said: "We were chuffed to bits with the performance. Some of the work we did in training this week really came together.

"Our handling was good and I thought we linked the forwards and backs very well. We recycled the ball quickly and tried to get it out wide as much as possible.

"It was a collective effort with 15 guys playing as a team, not as individuals."

Despite the impressive scoreline, Parker left frustrated at conceding a late try which leaves Westbury trailing seventh-place Colerne on points difference.

"It was disappointing to concede in the last minute because we could have moved even further up the table with this win," he said.

"But we have gone from losing to Swindon by a big margin to winning by a big margin. That shows how far we have come."

Promising prop forward Jack Bates gave Westbury a 10th minute lead when he gathered from a ruck and broke two tackles on the blindside to score an unconverted try.

Winger Matt Inseal extended the hosts' advantage when he rounded off a flowing team move which started on the Westbury 22 metre line.

Club veteran Alec Balchin was next to score for the White Horse men when he broke from a maul and powered through the Swindon defence to give his side a 17- 0 lead at half-time.

Phil Stockley crashed under the posts after a neat off-load from scrum half Adam Turner as Westbury began the second half in determined fashion.

Balchin bagged his second try from another rolling maul as Westbury picked off their Swindon counterparts at will.

Full back Chris Vaughan hammered the final nail in the coffin when he sprinted through a gaping hole in the visitors' defence to increase the lead to 36-0.

Swindon scored a consolation try in the dying minutes but it was not enough to take the gloss off an another fine team performance.

The White Horse men will be looking to cause an upset tomorrow when they host league leaders Supermarine at Leighton Green.

Parker said: "We start as underdogs but we have a good record at home this season. I'm expecting this to be a tough game with only a few points in it. It's our job to send Supermarine packing after a long coach journey."
