MOTOR RACING: CHIPPENHAM father and son racers Paul and Neal Stephenson were out racing at Snetterton circuit in Norfolk over the weekend.

They use the same Lola t492 car with a Ford engine installed. The car is a historic car built before 1982 and the engine capacity is 2000cc. Paul used the car for a 25 minute race on Saturday and Neal took the wheel for a 20 minute race on Sunday.

The car was then used in a relay race to do part of an hour race where Paul teamed up with another driver. Paul qualified in 15th position on the grid out of the 25 cars and in the race he made a good clean start and was soon in the thick of the pack of cars and driving well.

At the chequered flag, Paul was 13th and third in his class. Overnight rain made conditions tricky for Neal in qualifying on Sunday morning. He was in the first session on the track and had to be careful to avoid water lying on the track.

He completed 14 laps in qualifying but the times were slower than the previous day and started eighth out of ten on the starting grid.

Neal, in his first race since he was involved in an accident at Brands Hatch a few weeks ago, had his work cut out to get up to the front cars.

The pace was fast and furious but Neal was also making sure he kept out of trouble as he would need the car for the relay race later in the day. He finished sixth. After the qualifying session for the relay race Neal started in 13th place out of the 19 cars on the grid. Neal brought the car home in one piece and finished in 12th position overall.

Paul and Neal now move onto the Rockingham circuit in August where they will be competing once again.
