CHIPPENHAM Town skipper Ashley Williams wants to see his side put together a winning run as they look climb back towards the higher reaches of the Zamaretto League Premier Division table.

The Bluebirds picked up their first win in three games with a dramatic 3-2 victory over Brackley Town on Saturday and currently sit eighth in the table.

The weekend’s win was their 10th of the season and their captain would love to see his team show the same kind of form that saw them surge into the play-off positions last season.

“It’s just been one of those seasons where we haven’t been able to convert draws into wins,” said Williams.

“Last season we went on a good run and I know we’re capable of doing it but we just need to do it now.

“I don’t think we lack confidence and the lads always give 110 per cent for ourselves, for each other and for the staff.”

With a number of players returning to first-team action, Williams is confident that competition for places can only be a good thing.

“The worst thing you can do is be in a comfort zone and turn up thinking you’ll be in the team – that’s the last thing you want at a football club because you start lacking performances,” he said.

“It’s definitely a good time for everyone to start coming back and it puts us in a strong position.

“When you know you’ve got someone out there who can come in and take your place then you have to be in-form to keep the shirt.”
