North Wilts face Thornbury this Saturday in a round one Denny Plate tie, two rinks home and two away.

Saturday also sees the ladies side who won the top women’s indoor team event, Yetton Trophy in Spring 2008, start out this season in their bid to emulate that success.

They have been drawn against south Gloucestershire side Thornbury, two rinks home and two away, in a second-round tie, having been given a bye in the first round.

The two seniors competitions men’s Over 60s double rinks and ladies Mason Trophy commence next week and at the end of the month.

The North Wilts men’s two sides both face local derbies.

The A team face Christie Miller on November 8 while on the same day the B team will do battle with Clarrie Dunbar, one rink home and one rink away.

North Wilts’ Alex Jacobs, who has reached the latter stages on several occasions, has made a fine start in the 2016/17 ladies champion of champions competition.

She has won her opening two matches comfortably in the new Area 16.

In her first match Jacobs defeated Stroud’s Val Webb (Cotswold) 21-7 and followed it up in the next round with a 21-5 victory over her old rival Sue Latham (Thornbury).

Jacobs is through to the Area 16 semi-final and will face by November 20 either of two Somerset players Maureen Hordle (Isle of Wedmore) or England international Stefanie Branfield (Clevedon).

n THE North Wilts trio of Jean Coliier, Sue Cooke and Jacobs have been invited to take part in the Senior England Ladies regional international trials.

They will take part in the trial scheduled for Taunton Deane on Sunday, November 12 (4.30pm).

The trial invitations are their just reward for the trio winning the Ladies Over 50s two wood triples championship last season 19-14 in late March at Nottingham IBC.
