DEFENDING S.K. Premier Division champions The Castle FC suffered a huge setback to their hopes of retaining the title.

A week after they defeated Goatacre CC FC 6-2, the two teams met again and the villagers avenged their defeat with a 2-0 win of their own.

With the wind behind them in the first half, Goatacre took full advantage and led through Rob Murphy and Matt Smart made it 2-0 when he scored direct from a corner.

With the wind in their favor in the second period Castle had their opponents under the cosh but could not score as Goatacre’s defence were brilliant as they held out to claim a shock but deserved win.

The Leighton Sports pitch stood up to the elements of the last week and White Horse A FC finally put to bed a horrid run that hadn’t seen them win since a derby victory over Westbury Rangers at the beginning of October.

For the visitors, FC Constitutional, it was a second 4-1 defeat in two 2015 outings, blunting a promising pre-Christmas run that had seen them climb to third spot.

Horse started lively, causing problems for the Chippenham side from the first whistle, and it wasn’t long before they got the all-important opener, Dale Rowland finishing well on his return to the side, following excellent work from Dan Sandford, in just the ninth minute.

There was no let-up from the home side and they doubled their lead in the 20th minute, the impressive Jordan Gullis starting and finishing a swift move that saw Rowland turn provider.

The second period was a more even encounter for a large part and Andy Ladd in the Horse goal was finally called into action, making a couple of important saves.

He was powerless to stop the visitors goal however, with Sandford inadvertently putting past his own keeper with 15 minutes to go.

The away side’s hope of getting something out of the game was shortlived though, as two minutes later their keeper Ciaran Lyon upended Horse substitute Matt Crosnier in the box, resulting in Rowland netting his second and his team’s third from the penalty spot.

In the dying embers of the game Rowland completed his hat-trick from close range, with Gullis returning the favour from earlier and providing the assist.
