AFTER suffering a 6-2 defeat to Division Two leaders Bremhill View last weekend, Oakhill got their promotion challenge moving in the right direction with a hard-fought 2-1 win over fellow silverware chasers Rowdy Cow Rowde.

Robbie Burton’s goal for Oakhill separated the teams at half time.

Nathan Merrett’s first goal of the season doubled their lead and although Bradley Whitbread pulled a goal back for the Rowdy Cow to set up a tense finish, Oakhill held on for a deserved three points that puts them in the top three.

Any lingering doubts FC North Wiltshire may have had about a relegation battle in the season were almost certainly ended with after their 6-0 win at Melksham Forest Community Centre, who are one of four sides who are likely to feature in the battle for second division survival later in the season.

Dan Deacon scored a couple of goals in each half to claim a four timer for North Wilts. Dave Mullins added to Deacon’s first-half double to give his team a 3-0 interval lead and Dan Gilbert’s second-half strike made up the half dozen.

Worton & Cheverell (Sunday) made a few changes to the team that last met The Mallard at West Lavington back in November.

On that occasion Worton, who moved joint top with Bremhill after their latest win, won 14-0. The game ended with Worton again taking the points with a 8-0 success.

Kyle Davies on his return from injury scored two first half goals, John O’Donovan and Matty Minnis also found the net.

O’Donovan made it 5-0 early on in the second half and Minnis added a further 3, that took his season tally to 30 from nine games.
