DEVIZES-BASED FC Buscots look as if they are winning their battle with Melksham Cosmos to clinch the second promotion spot along with Potterne CFC, whose place in the top flight for next season was guaranteed at the weekend following their win over Trowbridge Town Supporters Club.

Buscots' 10-1 victory over Christian Malford maintained their hold on second spot and with time and matches running out for Cosmos it is unlikely that Mark Camacho’s will slip up.

Luke Enderby scored the first two goals for the Buscots, Jamie Walters made it 3-0 and Nathan Moffatt added a fourth before half time.

After the break Walters took his tally to four with a quick-fire three timer. Nick Oram struck twice and Enderby scored a third to complete his hat-trick and Buscots 10 on the night.

Stuart Kemp scored the Malford consolation.

It was case of after the Lord Mayor’s show for Pheasant FC who, after their stunning victory over Melksham Cosmos at the weekend, returned to earth with a bang after their trip to Miller Sports A resulted in them suffering a 3-0 defeat.

Pheasant started with 10 men and were outplayed for the first 30 minutes, but Miller’s only clear cut chance saw Ashley Monaghan head over when he should really have scored.

Harry Waylen broke the deadlock to give Miller the lead and they thought they had grabbed another before half time. But despite Will Gale putting the ball in, the goal was ruled out as the referee couldn't see it go in through the crowd of players so didn’t think it had cross the line.

Joe Murray made it 2-0 early in the second from the penalty spot after Robert Biggs was upended in the area after he had beaten three players.

Scott Boyd then made it 3-0 with a pacy run through the defence before firing across the keeper to cap what was a great team performance with Richard Moules deputising at centre back and having a fantastic game for the Miller Boys.

Melksham Cosmos kept themselves in the battle for an automatic promotion place, thanks to a 4-1 triumph away at relegation threatened Sutton Benger.

Cosmos, who suffered a surprise loss at the weekend against Pheasant FC got back to winning ways but only after they turned things around once they had fallen behind to a Mark Bolton penalty for a Benger side who stated the game with 10 men.

Dan Moore got Cosmos back on level terms, Matt Bowden put them 2-1 ahead and Chris Berrelly made it 3-1 at the interval.

A second from Dan Moore wrapped up all three points for the Cosmos Calne based rivals Talbot FC and North Star FC met at Anchor Road Recreation Ground and, having lost their earlier encounter 3-1, Talbot were desperate to avenge that loss and claim the bragging rights.

But like the first encounter that the Star won 3-1 the points went to Mark Clarke’s side again but only after they ground out a 4-2 victory in what was a fantastic contest played in a great spirit by both teams.

Jamie Lloyd-Davies, making a rare appearance for the Star, gave them the lead which was double thanks to Mickey Taraskevics. Ben Tylee made it 3-0 before Chris Edes reduced the arrears for the Talbot.

Jamie Crump restored Star’s three-goal cushion but back came Talbot with Simon Vowden netting their second which set up a thrilling finale and although Star were under pressure they were able to see the game out to claim a deserved victory.
