DEVIZES-BASED Cavalier FC, who had not played for a month, returned to action with a trip to Westbury Conservative Club, who were looking to maintain the fine run of results which had taken them into third spot in Division Three.

Cons came through a tough test of their promotion credentials with a 4-2 win that keeps them in touching distance of both Semington FC and The Dursley Arms above them.

Steve Ball gave his team the lead only for Adam Bewley to level for Cavalier prior to half time. Frankie McEntegart regained the lead for Cons before Ball made it 3-1 with his second of the morning.

A second from Bewley gave Cavalier hope of a comeback but that was ended when Ball completed his hat-trick and secured his 22nd goal of the season.

Local rivals FC St George and Fox & Hounds (Warminster) met for the first time since their Frome Sunday League days and with the former only having 9 players, it gave the latter a huge advantage, which the made the most of to run out 17-2 winners.

Jayson Stokes led the scoring with 10, his first 4 coming inside 14 minutes, Darrell Hitchcock and Justin Preece both netted braces, and Alan Hitchcock, Jamie Kinchin and Aaron Stevens all also got themselves on the scoresheet.

Paul Arnold’s run and finish from inside his own half and a Dave Bingham own goal gave St George their goals.

Forest were looking to build on last week’s success over Evana Designs but they came up just short as a 2-1 loss at home to 91-92 condemned them to their sixth defeat of the season.

Ben Forester’s goal for 91-92 separated the teams at the break but when Steve Badger restored parity in the second half, it was looking likely that Forest were on for a share of the points. With time running out, 91-92 were awarded a penalty and Gary Turk kept his nerve as he tucked the ball away to earn his team win number four of the campaign.

Calne United believed they should have chalked up a victory when they last met Warminster Wanderers but back in October, a 2-1 defeat condemned Calne to a fifth straight loss.

In the reverse clash, Calne claimed their just reward as a much-improved showing helped them avenge that loss with a 5-2 win.

Goals for Matt Fenn and Mike Hedges put Calne two-up before Jamie Howse reduced the arrears for Warminster, who also saw David Raine miss from the penalty spot. A second from Fenn extended Calne’s first half lead to 3-1.

After the break, Ryan Elay pulled a goal back for Warminster but it couldn’t kickstart a comeback as further goals for Hedges and Fenn, which saw him complete a hat-trick, sealed a deserved victory for Calne, who also had a Callum Horne penalty saved by Stuart Milliken.
