BEING the only Premier Division side in this season’s Ken Clarke sponsored - WG Parr Trophy competition meant that Melksham Cosmos were handed the tag of favourites.

Although it took them an extra 30 minutes to overcome second division FC North Wiltshire, they will take their place in the last four thanks to a 2-1 win.

North Wiltshire took the lead through Tom Watchman but they were pegged back when Tommy Smith made it one each prior to half time.

Neither team were able to come up with a second half winner so the tie went to added time and for a long time it was looking as if the game would be decided on penalties, but players were saved have to suffer a spot kick lottery when Smith scored the Cosmos winner with five minutes of extra time remaining.

For second division joint leaders Lavington Rangers, their Parr Trophy quarter-final tie was their first of the competition after they received a bye and a walkover in previous rounds, whereas Calne BFC were playing for a third time after victories over Sutton Benger and FC Lacock.

It was third time unlucky for the visitors to Northbrook whose cup run was end with a 3-2 loss.

Mike Booth and James Squire gave Lavington a 2-0 interval lead and when Cullen Wylie added a third early in the second half, the hosts were in the driving seat.

Things became interesting when Dean Fry and Aaron Clegg got Calne back in the game but despite throwing everything at Lavington they were unable to conjure up a third.

With their own pitch unplayable, first division Somerford FC switched their cup tie to Sutton Benger, home of second opponents and local rivals Oakhill.

The villagers breezed into the last four thanks to a 7-1 win and, with the experience of manager Trevor Rawlings behind the Somerford revival, they could actually go on to win the whole thing.

Two goals inside a minute from Matt Spear and Ashley Monaghan knocked the stuffing out of Oakhill and when Antony Brown made it 3-0 Somerford had the tie won.

Tom Webb did pull a goal back for Oakhill, however it was little more than a consolation as two more goals for Monaghan that saw him complete his hat-trick and ingles from Josh Langley and Will Stone completed the win.

First division Rowdy Cow Rowde were the first team to book their place in the semi-finals.

Work commitments for opponents Bath Road meant that they were unable to raise a team for their quarter-final tie, meaning that Rowdy Cow were awarded the game.
