UNDOUBTEDLY the match of the day in the Shoestrings Chargrill-sponsored Chippenham & District Sunday League at the weekend was the Premier Division clash between AFC Melksham and the The Castle FC, who since losing to Corsham Wildcats back in early October had won seven on the spin.

But their excellent run came to an end as Melksham ground out a deserved 3-1 win.

Callum Demkiv's opening goal for Melksham was cancelled out by Jamie Walters whose 15th goal of the campaign squared things up.

Melksham regained the lead courtesy of a second from Demkiv and they made it 3-1 prior to the interval, Lee Ridout scoring what proved to be the final goal of the game.

Following recent victories over last term's top-flight winners and runners up, Corsham Wildcats and The Pack Horse, Leighton Joyce took his Cons FC side to White Horse A, who were looking to arrest a run of six straight defeats.

With neither team able to force an opening in the first half the deadlock was finally broken on 75 minutes when Cons substitute Jordan Beasley side-footed into the top corner despite the best efforts of the White Horse keeper Andy Ladd.

Cons were unable to hold on to what they had and with time running out Paul Beavers earned the hosts a share of the spoils when he bundled the ball home to make it 1-1.
