WITH all league and cup fixtures from the Shoestrings Chargrill-sponsored Chippenham & District Sunday League lost at the weekend due to waterlogged pitches, one match that managed to beat the elements was the Wiltshire Sunday Cup quarter-final tie between Salisbury League side Rose & Crown and treble-chasing Castle FC.

However the contest failed to reach a conclusion as it was abandoned on 90 minutes with the score at two apiece.

Having already claimed the scalps of Chippenham League sides, Westbury Conservative Club and Bremhill View in previous rounds, Rose & Crown found themselves 2-0 down at the interval against Nathan Emm’s side.

Matt Tilley gave Castle the lead on five minutes and then Rob Mitchell doubled the advantage in the 35th minute.

Rose & Crown fought back in the second half and managed to restore parity, but with the conditions getting worse by the minute the referee decided that he would save the teams extra time by calling a halt to proceedings at the end of 90 minutes.
