GRAHAM Griffiths had a debut to remember for Melksham Cosmos as he netted a double which helped his team claim a 4-4 draw at Premier Division leaders Goatacre CC FC.

Cosmos, who went into the game bottom of the table, took the lead when the hosts' keeper Shaun Preen fumbled the ball into his own net, but found themselves 2-1 down as goals from Jon Wilkins and Matt Smart turned the game in favour of Goatacre.

Cosmos fought back and drew level before half time, Ashley Barnett restoring parity.

Matt Morgan reclaimed the lead for Goatacre only for Griffiths to make it three apiece with his second of the morning.

Griffiths completed his hat-trick to put Cosmos 4-3 up but victory was denied when Darren Holcombe fired home Goatacre’s fourth to tie things up.

A 7-1 win for Castle FC at home to Westbury Rangers saw them close to within two points of table toppers Goatacre and, with two games in hand on their rivals, it shouldn’t be long until Nathan Emm’s side take over pole position.

Westbury, who started the game with nine players, fell behind to a powerful back post header from Nathan Emm on three minutes.

Alex Surman made it 2-0 in the 15th minute when he found space at a corner and drilled the ball home. Matt Tilley lobbed home number three from 20 yards.

The second half saw Westbury reduced to seven men after injuries to Dan Cox and Liam Griffiths, but they battled on bravely to see the game out after Tilley’s penalty on 49 minutes made it 4-0.

Tilley completed his hat-trick before goals for Nathan Moffat and Liam Hill wrapped up Castle’s win after Marc Lanfear struck a wonder goal to give Rangers their consolation.

The Chippenham & District Sunday League will take no further part in this season's Wiltshire Junior Cup as sole survivors AFC Melksham saw their cup hopes end with a 4-0 defeat away at top Swindon League outfit FC Walcot.
