This Sunday sees the 37th final of the WG Parr Trophy when first division rivals Bremhill View Social Club and Gladstone Sports lock horns at Corsham Town’s Southbank ground.

We are down to the final two teams from the 35 that started out last September and if this final matches the ones from previous seasons, then it should be another classic.

Calne-based Bremhill View go into the game as first division leaders and red hot favourites to lift the first of a possible two pieces of silverware this season, and it will need one mammoth effort from Gladstone, who they have already taken three points from this term, to deny them glory.

Having said that, Mark Clarke’s side shouldn't be written off as they were beaten 2-1 by Bremhill on the opening day of the season and then drew the return match 3-3, so on paper they are more than capable of matching Marcus Lovesey’s team.

Bremhill's route to the final began with a potential banana skin away at Biddestone White Horse, where they came out on top thanks to a 6-2 win that saw Liam Brown score three, Mark Smith score twice and another strike from Mark Dolman.

Round Two was a home tie against Lysley Arms which should have been another difficult game but yet again they came out on top with a very good performance and won the game 7-1.

Mark Dolman helped himself to four, Mark Smith, Neurin Jones and Pete Thornton shared the others.

In the quarter-finals, Bremhill were paired with Division Two high-flyers Green Bell and they came out on top 3-0, courtesy of two goals from Mark Smith and one from Mark Dolman.

The semi-final was an all Division One affair with Bradford News standing in their way of making it to the Southbank. Mark Smith gave Bremhill the lead but the Newsmen leveled before half time.

Bremhill came out very strong in the second half, comfortably putting the game to bed 4-1, with a second from Mark Smith and goals from Liam Brown and Neurin Jones to book their place in the final.

Gladstone Sports' route to the final saw them come through two penalty shoot outs.

Like their opponents Bremhill View Social Club, Gladstone missed out on a preliminary round match and were given a first round tie away at Third division Blue Circle (Sunday), which they won 3-0 - James Weston, Shane Bell and Martin Riddell scoring the goals.

The second round saw them overcome second division Crown FC (Rowde) but after a nervy penalty shoot out, Shane Bell scored the goal in normal time before successful spot kicks from Tom Bond, James Weston, Mark Bolton, Matt Hooper and Mike Flynn earned them what was a controversial win.

Next up for Gladstone were fellow fist division side AFC Calne who they beat 2-0, with Liam Bell and Mark Bolton scoring the all important goals.

Gladstone’s win over Calne set up an all first division semi-final, where opponents Bromham were expected to give Mark Clarke’s side one of their hardest games to date and that was the way things turned out as Gladstone took the lead through Shane Bell, but by half time Bromham were 2-1 ahead.

Tom Bond fashioned an equaliser for Gladstone to take the tie to extra time which was unproductive so it came down to spot kicks, where James Weston, Tom Bond, Matt Hooper and Andy Flynn, who had missed one in normal time, all scored to book Gladstone their place in the final.

The match kicks-off at 2.00pm in front of what is expected to be a healthy crowd and if both teams play the football that they are capable of, the paying public should be in for a feast of football.

With Bremhill View on fire at the moment and Mark Smith looking to keep up his record of scoring in every round of the competition, the Calne based side should prevail with what could be one of the most convincing wins for a while.
