THREE weeks ago Chippenham scored three late goals in Cambridgeshire to come back from 2-0 down at St Neots, only to concede a late equaliser.

This time they staged an even more remarkable Cambridgeshire comeback as they again trailed 2-0 to St Ives with six minutes left on the clock, only to hit three goals in as many minutes to hold on to top spot.

After picking up the Southern Premier Division's ‘Team of the Month’ for August, it looked like the curse that follows such an award was about to strike again until the Bluebirds displayed an exceptional team spirit to end St Ives’ unbeaten home record.

In a fairly even first half St Ives still managed to score two goals.

Their first came on the quarter of an hour mark when the Bluebirds defence failed to deal with Ben Seymour-Shove’s delivery and Josh Dawkin was able to set-up Tom McGowan whose shot went in off a post.

The Bluebirds then lost Michael Pook to injury whilst Dave Pratt had Chippenham’s best chance of an equaliser only to be thwarted by defender Harry O’Malley.

O’Malley then doubled the advantage on 34 minutes when he headed home a free kick from Seymour-Shove.

Before the interval Chippenham brought on Alan Griffin as they went three up front.

After the break the Bluebirds dominated proceedings but it was not until the 84th-minute that their fightback began as a long ball forward found Alex Ferguson who fired home.

A minute later Andy Sandell played in Pratt and he hit the equaliser from 10 yards out.

With the home side still reeling, Matt Jones’s 87th-minute free kick was not cleared and Griffin was on hand to hit the winner.
