ADAM Collington has relinqished the manager's job at Westbury United, the club announced tonight.

United revealed that Collington, who took over in May following the departure of previous boss Matty Bown, had left his post prior to today's 1-0 home defeat by fellow strugglers Roman Glass St George in the Toolstation League First Division.

Assistant Mark Hurkett has taken the reins on an interim basis and will be assisted by former boss and now chairman Paul Brickley.

Collington, who previously managed Warminster Town, leaves Westbury with the club fourth bottom of the Toolstation League First Division and without a win in their last nine league matches.

A club statement said: "Adam Collington has decided to resign as manager as he doesn’t feel he is the right man to take the club forward.

"On an initially interim basis, his assistant Mark Hurkett has taken on the reins and will be assisted by Paul Brickley.

On the pitch, a questionable refereeing performance was the main talking point of a match which was won with a headed goal by Roman Glass’ player-manager - former Bristol Rovers and Swindon Town man Andy Gurney.

United’s best player on the day was Nick Taylor, who showed the determination necessary if a way back to positive results is to be found.

Both teams played some decent football in a goalless first half with Ryan Elliott, Simon Millard and Nick Taylor going close for Westbury as did Drew Hamilton-Dunn and Dan Williams twice for St George.

The respective goalkeepers Callum Hotine and Gary Dempsey were both called on to make saves to keep the score level.

The pivotal moments came early in the second half after Hotine had done well to save from Hamilton-Dunn.

United’s Mark Young was shown a straight red card for dissent before 10 minutes later Gurney arrived unmarked to head in a corner kick.

The referee deemed it necessary to brandish yellow cards to a number of players in the closing stages, including Gurney for an audible obscenity.

Westbury: Callum Hotine, Gary Tugwell, Grant Gunning, Dan Hurkett, Marc Scammell, Ryan Elliott, Nick Taylor, Jon Price, Mark Young, Simon Millard, Josh Maguire.
