HEYTESBURY went into their Wiltshire Junior Cup clash with Salisbury League outfit South Newton & Wishford on the back of a seven-match unbeaten run and, thanks to a brilliant rearguard effort in the second half, they claimed a well deserved 2-1 win.

Bradley Edwards fired Heytesbury ahead, but South Newton levelled from the penalty spot before an own goal late in the first half gifted Heytesbury the lead.

Freshford United were handed a tricky tie at Cirencester League Division One side Oaksey, but once against Chris Birleson’s team produced the goods and kept their challenge for five trophies very much alive thanks to a commanding 7-1 win.

Mark Gerrish netted three, two of which came from the penalty spot. Nick Ross, Elliot Carris-Smith, Tom Rooney and Matt Lay shared the others.

With a number of their players ineligible for their Junior Cup clash, Craig Campbell’s Potterne side knew they would be up against it at home to top Salisbury Premier League outfit The Wanderers. Potterne gave it their best shot but ended up on the wrong end of a 3-0 scoreline.

Hilperton United who, as the Lamb FC in 2012, suffered a 2-1 extra-time final loss to Stockton & Codford, will want to forget their latest Junior Cup meeting with the Salisbury League side, who romped to a 7-1 win. Neil Hulford scored United's consolation.

Swindon Premier League leaders Avtar Construction lived up to their billing as one of the favourites for the cup, but were made to work hard for their latest success.

After falling behind to a Joe Clayton goal they fought back to beat Trowbridge Rangers 4-1.

White Horse FC came from 3-1 down to beat Salisbury Premier League side Porton Sports 6-3. Dale Rowland’s hat-trick, Allan Clarke’s penalty and goals from Marek Miszta and Paul Beavers made up the winners' half dozen.

North Bradley progressed to the quarter-final stages without having to kick a ball.

Ben Howe’s side were awarded a walkover at the expense of fellow league side Castle Combe.

Last week Tom Bull’s side were unable to raise a side for their scheduled A&B Cup clash and this week Bull’s team pulled out of the Junior cup thus handing the game to their opponents.
