DIVISION One front runners Castle Combe faced one of their toughest challenges for a while when they hosted a Bradford United side, who were looking to keep their own title aspirations alive.

Bradford came out on top winning 3-2, but their hosts will be kicking themselves as they threw away a two-goal lead,.

Bradford were given a route back into the game after they were awarded what both teams thought was a soft penalty before going on to snatch a victory from the jaws of defeat.

Castle Combe were under the cosh for the opening 25 minutes and only a great save from their keeper Colin Hayward kept the score goalless. The woodwork then denied Richie Bliha an opener for Bradford who fell behind to Combe’s first real attack of the game, Quinnan Tarawai putting the villagers one up at the break.

A stunning goal from Robbie Burton, who volleyed home a wonder goal from just inside Bradford’s half, doubled Castle Combe lead just a few minutes into the second period.

Bradford were thrown a lifeline back into the game when they were awarded a questionable penalty which Theo Sing tucked away to reduce the arrears.

Bradford got themselves back on level terms though Ryan Mortimer who headed home after a Theo Sing corner had been flicked across the face of goal to him by Phil Little.

With their tails now up, Bradford pushed for a winner and it came 10 minutes from time, Matt Stevens crossing to Mortimer who headed home his second and Bradford’s third to earn Anthony Ottavanio’s side their contentious win.

A 4-0 defeat for Warminster Town Reserves at Hilperton United, which was coupled with a win for Semington Magpies saw them drop into the relegation zone for the first time this season.

Goals from Dean Coles and Neil Hulford gave Hilperton a 2-0 interval lead and second-half goals for Ben Smith and Hulford sealed victory for Tony Stevens side.

Semington Magpies hosted Trowbridge Town Reserves, both teams starting the game in the bottom two.

Thanks to their best performance for a while, Magpies with a 6-1 flew out of the drop zone. Sean Meer put Magpies one up and Liam Snook made it 2-0 inside the opening 20 minutes. Trowbridge scored ten minutes before half time through Michael Johnson.

A second for Meer early in the second half gifted Semington a 3-1 lead ad Meer then completed his hat trick for 4-1 before Nigel Hall added number five when he fired home from the penalty spot.

Snook made it six with his second of the afternoon to complete a deserved win for the Magpies.
