FROME Town chief Adrian Foster believes the Robins are capable of mixing it with the best in the league after they suffered a narrow Boxing Day defeat at home to Poole Town.

Steve Devlin got the only goal of the game midway through the second half at the Blindmans Brewery Stadium, with the win sending Poole top of the table ahead of the New Year’s Day fixtures.

The defeat left Frome in the bottom three but Foster maintains they are in a false position.

“They are top of the table and it shows there’s not much between the two sides,” said Foster.

“It’s that we have been depleted every week and they haven’t. If we’d had everyone to pick from every game I’m sure we’d be a lot closer.

“We played very well and they didn’t deserve to win. I think they only had one shot on target.

“We dominated and looked strong. We had a lot of possession but in the last third there was just something missing.”

Frome are due to travel to local rivals Chippenham Town on New Year's Day and host Histon on Saturday.

Ed Baldy will retain his place in goal after making his debut against Poole.

The keeper signed on dual registrations forms from Bradford Town last week to cover for the injured Darren Chitty.

Foster added: “It’s two massively important games against teams around us so we have to target six points.”
