WESTBURY United were made to pay for a poor first-half performance as they were comfortably beaten 3-0 by visiting Chippenham Park last Saturday.

Shaun Gardiner’s side were much-improved after the break but the damage was already done as Westbury were forced to chase a two-goal deficit.

After a very slow start Mark Robinson led a Park counter attack on 13 minutes and forced a good save out of United keeper Callum Hotine.

Daniel Smith sent across the resulting corner and Michael Clement climbed highest at the back post to head home the opening goal.

Park were all over Westbury and it took a fair slice of good luck and several more saves by Hotine to keep them at bay.

The second goal the visitors had threatened arrived on 26 minutes, with Smith again providing the assist as a weak Aaron Ledgister effort snuck through home keeper Hotine and into the net.

The visitors could have been out of sight by the break but Ledgister could not convert when well placed and Callum Cooper pulled off a fine block.

United looked much stronger in the second half but failed to create any clear-cut chances, with Marc Lanfear seeing a good strike blocked and then Matt Mead firing a free-kick over the bar.

Chippenham made the points safe with a soft penalty on 72 minutes when Josh Maguire was adjudged to have fouled Toby Clarke and Ledgister notched his second of the day from the spot.

Westbury are on the road on Saturday and travel to fellow strugglers Keynsham Town.
