WARMINSTER Town have signed former Swindon Town ace Sol Davis in a bid to turn their season around.

Davis, 35, spent five years at the County Ground before joining Luton Town in 2002 and remained there until the Hatters dropped out of the Football League in 2009.

He has since predominantly played in non-league and could make his Warminster debut away at Ashton & Backwell on Saturday.

Warminster joint-manager Derek Graham said: “He signed on Tuesday. He’s 35 but he’s not properly fit yet.

“Hopefully he can play on Saturday but even if he doesn’t having his experience around will be massive for the lads. All but three of them are under 22.

“That could turn our season around if he stays interested.”

Warminster’s winless league run stretched to a sixth game when they were beaten at Wellington last weekend.

Their cause was not helped by an own goal inside two minutes. Wellington then pulled two goals clear but Tom Welch gave Town a lifeline before the break.

The visitors were the better side in the second half but were unable to muster an equaliser, and their race was run when Wellington netted a third at the death.

Graham added: “We just couldn’t score. It was a great performance but a bad result.”

Warminster saw their game at home to Chippenham Park postponed on Wednesday night because of a frozen pitch.
