STAR striker Sam Jordan says it would be amazing to fire Bradford Town into the FA Vase quarter-finals.

Paul Shanley’s side take the next step on the road to Wembley tomorrow when they face fellow Wiltshire side Highworth Town at Trowbridge Road (3pm) in the fifth round of the national competition.

Jordan has been a key man for Bradford this term, netting 21 goals in 23 starts in all competitions.

However, he has been hampered by a recent stomach injury and Jordan hopes that will not stop him making another big impact.

“I’d love to be the hero or score an important goal,” said Jordan.

“I feel like I have done OK this season but I’m coming back from an injury so I know I’m not quite at my best.

“I pulled one of my stomach muscles about two months ago and I ended up missing a few games because of it.

“I can still feel it now, but I think it’s getting there.

“Really I need to take my time with it but the team are doing so well right now and with such important games coming up, I can’t really afford to miss them.”

Jordan has played a central role in Bradford’s Vase progression, scoring the equaliser in the last round as they came from behind to beat local rivals Melksham Town 3-1 at home.

He also bagged an impressive four-goal haul in the first-round win over Malmesbury Victoria and netted five times in two qualifying games.

Jordan added: “It’s going to be a massive game this weekend.

“The Melksham game before was good for the community as all the stands were full up. “Playing in front of that was great and hopefully this will be the same again.

“I don’t think this game will be quite as spicy as you can’t really compare it to Bradford v Melksham but it will certainly have the same sort of feel building up to it as we both know how important it is.

“I think this is probably the biggest game I’ll have played in for Bradford and we’re all really excited about it.

“We have talked about getting to Wembley as a group of players, but personally I’ve not been thinking about it at all.

“If we get through this round maybe we can start to imagine it but there are still a few games and some quality teams left.”

Earlier this week it was announced that the Vase would be on display at Trowbridge Road before the game, with FA representatives bringing the trophy to the ground at midday.

Bradford chairman Les Stevens hopes this can inspire a big turnout for the big match.

He said: “It’s a very nice gesture and a great honour.

“It’s great for the people that come to watch the game as the younger children can have their picture taken with it and it just makes the whole day a bit more of an occasion.

“I think maybe as both teams are from Wiltshire that’s why they’ve chosen us and hopefully people from right across the county can celebrate the game.

“Hopefully lots of people get behind us and we’d like to think there’d be about 400-plus there.

“We’re all really looking forward to it. It’s something that might never happen again so we have to savour it.”
