FRESHFORD United booked their place in the final of the Wiltshire Junior Cup, after ending the 11-match unbeaten run of Swindon Sunday League Premier division leaders Avtar Construction.

Avtar had already disposed of Trowbridge League sides Heytesbury and Trowbridge Rangers before setting up their semi-final clash with Chris Birleson’s side.

An excellent all-round team performance from the villagers saw them defeat Avtar 3-1 to reach their first-ever Wilts Junior cup final where they will play Alderbury FC, who beat The Wanderers 4-2 in the other semi-final.

Freshford took the lead in the first half with Craig Brown putting them in front after being set up by Tom Rooney. The villagers had the chance to double their lead but Dave Percival missed from the penalty spot.

The miss wasn’t too prove costly as Gavin Eyre made it 2-0 to Freshford with an absolutely stunning effort.

Out of nowhere he ploughed his right boot through the ball, sending it into the net from 35 yards giving the Avtar keeper no chance.

Craig Brown sealed victory for Freshford with his second of the afternoon, Brown was on hand to turn the ball home and make it 3-0 after good work from Elliot Carris-Smith.
