DESPITE a spirited performance, Westbury United were unable to put the brakes on high-flying Barnstaple Town last weekend.
Before the visitors opened their account, they exerted plenty of early pressure as several set pieces had to be well-defended by the hosts whilst Callum Hotine saved well from Ryan Turner and Jack Jenkins.
After Westbury’s Tony McElhone had a penalty shout turned down, the visitors went ahead as Liam Gregory’s corner was met by James Mayne’s powerful header.
And on the half-hour mark, Barnstaple netted a near carbon copy as Jed Harper-Penman’s flag kick found Mayne unmarked and he was able to make it 2-0.
Brett Partner and Jordan Mathews went closest to pulling a goal back for Shaun Gardiner’s men, who travel to 15th-placed Radstock Town this weekend.
