WESTBURY United came within minutes of brining their difficult losing run to an end before they suffered last-gasp heartbreak at Cheddar last weekend.

Shaun Gardiner’s side had lost four in a row going in to Saturday’s trip to Somerset and after a hardy display, Westbury were on track to claim a share of the spoils before the Cheesemen snatched all three points in the fourth minute of added time.

Home goalkeeper Kieran Webster was called into action on a number of occasions as he denied Tony McElhone, Brett Partner, Jordan Matthews, Grant Gunning whilst Westbury stopper Callum Hotine was equally busy, keeping out for Chris Coombes, Adam Jones, Robbie Maggs and Sam Jones.

Gary Tugwell almost grabbed a goal for Westbury with 88 minutes on the clock, Cheddar’s Webster saving well with his feet to deny the United man, but the hosts’ Adam Jones cruelly sunk Westbury in the 94th minute when he spectacularly volleyed home at the death.

Gardiner’s men, who remain second-from-bottom in the Toolstation League First Division table with five games to go, will attempt to get back to winning ways when they return to Somerset on Saturday, with Westbury making the trip to Welington.
