WARMINSTER Town joint-manager Derek Graham lauded new signing Bryan Smith after he helped his new team-mates to victory at Devizes Town on his Easter Monday debut.

Former Chippenham Town ace Smith slotted straight into Warminster’s midfield and got the second goal of the game in the second half.

Tom Golledge had earlier opened the scoring for the visitors at Nursteed Road, breaking the deadlock after half-an-hour.

Golledge’s strike against Devizes was his fourth over the Easter weekend as he also bagged a hat-trick in the 4-2 win over local rivals Westbury United on Good Friday.

George Butler was also on target for Graham’s men, while Sam Clift got both of Westbury’s goals.

However, an unsavoury incident just after the break which saw a player from each side sent off left a bit of a cloud over the game.

The six-point return has seen Warminster climb the table and Graham is now keen to finish the season as strongly as possible.

Graham said: “Against Devizes, I can honestly say I’ve never enjoyed a game so much in my life.

“There aren’t many games where you can just stand back and admire but some of the football we played on Monday was outstanding.

“The second goal we scored must have been from about a 12-strong passing move. Brian started it in the middle and then popped up in the box to put it in at the end.

“To have someone like Bryan come in and just talk to the lads on the pitch will be massive for us. He will make them all better players.

“Tom is a great finisher. He’s just got something about him. He is our top scorer now and he’s only been here half a season, so has done really well for us.

“We’ve shot up about four places and if we can get one more before the end of the season it ends up being quite respectable.”

Warminster play their final home game of the season on Saturday as they host Hengrove Athletic.
