WESTBURY United suffered a chastising start to the season as they shipped 12 goals without reply in their two games.

After being thrashed 7-0 at Hengrove Athletic on the opening day of the campaign, they were crushed again on the road in midweek when they travelled to Almondsbury UWE.

Shaun Gardiner’s side endured a tough 2014-15 campaign and finished bottom of the standings.

Although they have worked tirelessly to strengthen over the summer, another season of struggle looks to be on the cards.

Simon McElroy struck twice for the Almonds on Tuesday night, while Daniel Lane, Samuel Rees and Geraint Williams were also on target to sink United.

Westbury had earlier suffered the worst imaginable start to the league season as they wilted in the heat at Hengrove.

After a tight start where United seemed to have the better of Athletic, the hosts scored their opener through Mark Fear and never looked back.

Fear helped himself to a second goal, while James Dunn also struck twice but Elliott Saunders stole the show with a hat-trick.
