FROME Town manager Nick Bunyard admitted his side rode their luck as they picked up a surprise point at league leaders Poole Town.

Despite losing Nate Summers back to Hereford and Jordy Nkunga unavailable, Frome’s defence held firm as Darren Chitty kept them at bay in a goalless draw.

Poole went close in the 10th minute as Jack Dickson hit the crossbar, before they were denied again by the frame of Chitty’s goal in the 38th minute.

With Histon’s game at Cambridge City postponed, Bunyard’s side were able to gain ground on the teams outside of the relegation zone.

“I was pleased because they have been on a good run of form and were run away leaders in the league and looking on paper it was a game that would have been difficult to pick anything up from,” said Bunyard.

“I felt we deserved a point at least away at King’s Lynn and we didn’t get anything from that so it was nice to pick up a point against Poole unexpectedly.

“We rode our luck a bit and Darren Chitty was exceptional in goal but after our efforts over the last two games we deserved something.”

Frome now have an important game at the bottom of the Southern League Premier Division table as Bunyard takes his side to his former club Paulton Rovers, who currently prop up the table.

“It is another three points ultimately,” added the Blindmans Brewery Stadium boss.

“I certainly don’t put any bigger emphasis on it. Obviously I am going back to my old club and there are a lot of ex-players on both sides and we’re both down in the relegation zone so it goes without saying that the fans will see it as a massively important game.

“We need to find some consistency to get us going and we’re just looking to pick up as many points as we can through the rest of the season and battle for every point.”
