WARMINSTER Town claimed a 2-0 home win over Oldland Abbotonians on Wednesday night.

After going 1-0 up in the first half through Josh Ferguson, they then doubled their advantage in the 60th minute when Sam Cliff scored from the spot.

But it was a long final 20 minutes for the red and blacks when Paul Farrell was sent off for picking up two yellow cards.

However, they held on and Mark Breffit praised his players for the character they showed after a disappointing loss on Saturday.

“It was nice to get back to winning ways after losing on Saturday against top of the league (Wellington) because before that we had put a good run together,” said the Warminster boss.

“I thought both of the bookings were harsh, but we were able to get ten men behind the ball and then we just saw the game out.

“We played the game at our pace and they didn’t really have any clear cut chances, it was nice to see us enjoy defending.

“They showed good character last night, they could have gone into it and not performed but they were straight back on it.”

Warminster are now up to 12th in the First Division having won three on the bounce but face a tough test at the weekend when they host second-placed Keynsham.

“We know it will be tough but I’m confident that we can beat anyone in the league especially at home,” added Breffit.

“First of all, we need to defend properly, not just as a back four but as a unit and win our individual battles.

“When we get the ball it is all about moving it quickly, breaking with pace and taking our chances when we get them.”

Corsham Town drew 2-2 with Ashton and Blackwell United on Wednesday.

Nigel Tripp’s side, 1-0 winners over Chard on Saturday, took the lead twice through Dan Heavey and Ben Pring before conceding a late equaliser.

Westbury United entertained Keynsham on Tuesday night but lost 1-0 at Meadow Lane.

After a cagey affair, Keynsham’s Pat Davison struck a 30-yard effort just past the half-hour mark to put the visitors ahead.
