WESTBURY United have announced that Joe and Neil Kirkpatrick have been appointed as joint first team managers at the Toolstation League First Division club.

The Meadow Lane outfit parted company with James Goddard in January after a disappointing run of form left them without a win in six games.

Subsequently, the club placed reserve team manager Marc Lanfear in temporary charge of the first team until the club found Goddard’s replacement.

The United role will be the first step into management for Joe, who is the son of Neil, although he will still be available to play for the side.

Club chairman Matt Bright admits the duo were very impressive from the beginning of the application process.

“Joe was someone who got put forward as a name, but when it got serious was when his dad (Neil) was made known to us,” said Bright.

“We had an interview with them late last week and very quickly we decided this is exactly what we were looking for.

“It ticked all the boxes, they very much come as a double act, they are good cop bad cop, Joe knows a lot of the players and Neil is more of a disciplinarian.”

Things improved for Westbury on the pitch on Saturday too as Lanfear steered them to a 2-0 win over Keynsham Town on Saturday, before recording a 3-2 win over Cheddar in the Les Phillips Cup last night.

The new management team were present to witness that triumph and were also introduced to their new playing staff.

Following their appointment, the management duo will take charge of the team for the first time for this weekend’s clash with Bishop Sutton at Meadow Lane.
