FROME Town boss Josh Jeffries was pleased with the reaction from his side as they claimed a 1-0 home win over Slough Town.

Last week Jeffries was left frustrated as he watched his troops lose 4-2 to Cinderford Town, but admits his players have redeemed themselves following their narrow Evo-Stik League Southern Premier Division win.

The only goal of the game came from Ryan Bath, who popped up with his first goal for the club in the first half.

“It was good to be fair. I wasn’t too pleased last Tuesday so it was good to see a response from the players,” said Jeffries, who admits March had been a frustrating month.

“There have definitely been ups and downs to the month. But it was always going to be tough, we have only lost one game against the top six teams which is pleasing.

“It just makes the results where we should have won, or the ones where we dropped points. even more frustrating.”

While he was happy with the performance and result, Jeffries admits it wasn’t the greatest spectacle to watch as they prepare to travel to second-placed Leamington at the weekend.

“It was a bit scrappy, the pitch was bobbly and the wind definitely didn’t help. Ryan Bath took his goal really well just before half-time.

“I’m really pleased for him because that was his first goal for the club. It was a big plus to have a clean sheet and come off the back of a poor performance last week.

“We have a few tough games left. They (Leamington) are obviously trying to catch (leaders) Chippenham and we know it will be tough.

“The pressure is on them at the moment so we can go out there and enjoy it really.”

Despite sitting in seventh Jeffries doesn’t think his side have the necessary tools to make a play-off bid due to his lightweight squad.

The hosts only had one substitute available against Slough due to injury, something which is less than ideal for the manager.

“Our squad has definitely been tested recently. Some of the players are playing through injuries. It’s pleasing to see what they are doing for me really,” he added.

“They’re all fighting for the cause which is another plus point. But it is probably a reason we are going to fall short.

“The teams in the play-offs will have players to call upon whereas we are taking 11 or 12 players and a couple of them shouldn’t be playing.”
