CORSHAM Ladies first team stunned Wessex Division 1 leaders Chippenham 2nd in a 4-3 thriller.

The hosts got off to the worst possible start and conceded twice in the first five minutes but Corsham showed their character and began to impose themselves on the game. Becky Davison-Smith got the breakthrough to cut the gap to 2-1 before half-time.

Corsham levelled the scores early in the second half through Lucy Stanley.

The game was still in the balance when Mel Bessell took on several defenders before squeezing the ball home to extend Corsham’s lead.

Chippenham rallied and reduced the arrears late on, but Corsham hung on to claim the points, with Laura Mizen player of the match.

Corsham 2nd were crushed 8-0 when they took on their Wootton Bassett counterparts in Wessex Division 2. Freya Bollen was the player of the match.
