TROWBRIDGE’S Hot Chilli Triathlon Club took its new junior section for a first competitive outing to the Bowood House Duathlon.
Eight Hot Chilli juniors aged 8-16 raced in the Tri Stars Duathlon (run/bike/run), Harry Webb putting in the performance of the day to come second in the Tri Star 3 event.
Nick Cranston, who heads up the junior section, said: “In the first four weeks we have been working on key skills in swim, bike, running and transitions and we already have juniors able to do skills that some of our senior athletes struggle with.
“In two weeks’ time the juniors will be heading up to the British Cycling bike track at Odd Down in Bath to work with specialist coaches on their biking and transition skills and we will be organising our own swim/run aquathlon event before Christmas.”
The club has been working with WASP (Wiltshire & Swindon Sport) in setting up the junior section and is seeking sponsorship to invest further in training equipment and specialist coaching.
Two of the older Hot Chilli juniors, Freddie Webb and Caitlin Wosika, also attended their first autumn training weekend with the South West Talent Squad down in Burnham on Sea.
Meanwhile, the Hot Chilli senior team all had strong performances at Bowood, with Paul Clark and Nick Cranston just outside medal positions with two fourth places.
