RUGBY: Dual French assignments for Bath in new-look European competition
BATH will renew acquaintances with old rivals Toulouse in next season's new European Rugby Champions Cup competition.
The draw for the new event, which replaces the Heineken Cup, was made in Switzerland today and paired 1998 Heineken Cup winners Bath with four-time European champions Toulouse.
The sides last met in the Heineken Cup in 2008-09, Bath drawing 3-3 at the Rec after slipping to a narrow 18-16 defeat in France.
Most famously, Bath beat Toulouse 19-14 in France in the pool stages of the 1999-2000 competition, although the French side went on to reach the knockout phase.
Also in Bath's Champions Cup pool are Montpellier, whom they met in the 2011-12 Heineken Cup, winning narrowly at home and losing in France.
Pro 12 runners up Glasgow Warriors complete pool four, Bath having won four of the five meetings between the sides in Europe.
Bath head coach Mike Ford said: "We're really excited to be back playing against the top teams in Europe. We want to challenge ourselves against the best, and playing the likes of these teams will give us the chance to do that.
"Glasgow, Montpellier and Toulouse have all had very good seasons and will pose different threats for us to overcome. We made a lot of progress last season, and we're looking to push on again and develop further as a squad, both in the Aviva Premiership and in Europe."
