WILTSHIRE paddlers put in another great showing at this weekend’s National Sprint Regatta in Nottingham.

The racing at the second of the British Sprint Regattas at the National Watersports Centre started in typical blustery fashion but local paddlers were not deterred and there were some fine performances all round.

The high spot of the weekend came courtesy of Bradford on Avon ace Stan Missen’s victory in the veteran K1 500m, which saw him take the age group national championship.

Newly-promoted paddlers Ed Nightingale and Freddie Brown got off to a good start, making finals in the boys’ C in both K1 and K2 throughout the weekend and proving competitive amongst new company.

Harriet Quigley continued her form by winning heats in both the girls’ D 200m and K1 500m events, and coming second and third respectively in the finals.

Jodie and Flossie Ball also made the final in the girls’ D K2 500m and 200m, coming third and fifth as well as making finals in the K1 500m.

Spencer Armstrong (Devizes) was fifth in the both the boys’ B 1,000m and the 500m, and also teamed up with Calum Gingell to finish 6th in the boys’ A/B K2 200m.

James Missen, who is now paddling for Nottingham, came second in both men’s B 500 K1 and K2.

Paddlers are now training hard and looking forward to their next Nottingham outing at the third regatta in early June when they hope to improve on their early season performances.

BRADFORD'S Hannah Brown is off to the World Cup in Portugal this weekend as part of the Great Britain squad, where she will compete in the 200m.

Meanwhile, London 2012 gold medallist Ed Mckeever has been selected for World Cup 2 in Duisburg, Germany and World Cup 3 in Copenhagen, Denmark later this month.
