DANNY Talbot's agony at missing out on a medal at the European Championships proved shortlived as the Trowbridge athlete was upgraded to bronze tonight.

Talbot appeared to agonisingly miss out on a medal after finishing fourth in the 200m final.

The Trowbridge sprinter clocked 20.56secs in Amsterdam to finish just 0.05secs behind the final podium place.

However, Churandy Martina, of the Netherlands, who won gold in 20.37 ahead of Spaniard Bruno Hortelano and Turkey’s Ramil Guliyev was subsequently disqualified for a lane violation, bumping Hortelano and Guliyev up a spot and Talbot into the medals.

Talbot’s fellow Brit, Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake, finished sixth in 20.60.

Talbot had qualified fastest for the final earlier in the day in Amsterdam, clocking a season’s best of 20.37 to win the second of three semi-finals.

The former St Augustine’s pupil had been seeking a second European individual medal in four years, having claimed bronze in the same event in Helsinki in 2012.
