MARLBOROUGH’s Ben Amor was delighted to regain bragging rights over his younger brother Jamie after winning the Wiltshire County Boys Championships on Tuesday.
Amor, 17, shot rounds of 71 and 72 to win by three shots in torrential conditions at Cumberwell Park and wrestle the title back from his 15-year-old sibling, who was crowned champion in 2012.
The Filton College student won the county foursomes title alongside Jamie, a pupil at St John’s School, on May 12 and was thrilled to seal an individual win after finishing as runner-up in last week’s senior Wiltshire championships.
“Jamie had the trophy on display in his bedroom the night before, saying ‘you’re not going to win this tomorrow’, but now it’s back in my room,” said the elder Amor, whose father Simon is the professional at the Marlborough club.
“I really wanted to finish off a tournament after coming second at the Burnham & Berrow Challenge Salver and the county championships and doing that has shown me that all the hard work practicing over the winter was worth it.”
