AFTER a number of top-half finishes in recent years, West Wilts Ladies captain Guss Kerr-Bonner says that her side are targetting promotion from Wessex Division 1 this year.

West Wilts finished third in the table and their captain thinks it’s about time that her team improved their fortunes, starting at Team Bath Buccaneers 5th this weekend.

“This is our fourth season in this league and we’ve never finished lower than third,” said Kerr-Bonner.

“It’s definitely going to be a tough ask but we want to push on and do our best to get promoted this time around.”

Melksham chairwoman Sally Robinson was proud of her side’s fourth-placed finish in Wessex 1 last season and says that the club should be aiming to consolidate their position .

Melksham have added a number of youngsters to their ranks during the closed season and start their new campaign away to Swindon 2nd tomorrow.

“Our aim at the start of last season was to keep ourselves in that division and we did that brilliantly,” said Robinson.

“We’re all very proud of ourselves and also of our seconds, who got the promotion they were after.

“We want to start by aiming to consolidate our place in the league again this year and hopefully, with the young players we’ve had come into the club, we’ll be able to carry on improving as we go on.”
