SECOND Division Semington Magpies produced one of the shocks of the season when they beat First Division Frome Town Sports 2-1 in the third round of the Chantry Digital Limited of Trowbridge-sponsored Knockout Cup.

Frome never got started in the match and found themselves a goal behind at the break after Dan Rimmer scored for the visitors.

The second half was no better for the Somerset side as they found themselves being outplayed for most of the period and succumbed to a second goal three minutes from time as Stuart Barber tapped in from close range to seal Magpies triumph.

Seend United found themselves dumped out of the cup after losing to The Deverills by 3-1.

Mike Payne scored the only goal of the first period to give the visitors the lead. The second half didn't start any better for Seend as Nick Bunyard doubled The Deverills' lead from their very first attack.

It became 3-0 on the hour mark through Aarron Stevens. A shocked Seend then started to reassert themselves into the match but it was too little too late, although they did score a consolation goal through Chris Styles.

Second Division St Andrews took on Steeple Ashton at Winsley and for the first 28 minutes found themselves under constant barrage from the Ashton forwards.

However, an odd break away chance from Chris Tompkiss gave the home side the lead, much against the run of play.

The match then turned on an injury to Ashton's Rob Comba. The seven minute delay seemed to rejuvenate Ashton but cause St Andrews to switch off. With two minutes to go Dean Gumm grabbed the equaliser and then a minute later he made it 2-1 to the visitors and secure a half-time lead.

Still reeling from the end of the first half St Andrews then conceded two quick goals at the start of the second. Guy Rowley scored goal number three after 49 minutes and two minutes later Sam Stevens scored the fourth.

The match then settled down with both teams playing some good attacking football but they had to wait until the 87th minute for another goal which came from a great solo effort by George Mortimer to make the final score 5-1 to Steeple Ashton.

BRATTON maintained their push for promotion as they travelled to Frome Town Sports A and came away with a comfortable 6-1 victory.

Seend started strongly and were 1-0 up within ten minutes when Danny Griffith finished neatly from just outside the box. They extended their lead after 15 minutes when man-of-the-match Ralph Plummer scored with a deft touch from close range.

Calne then steadied themselves and started to compete much more, and although Seend still continued to pass the ball around impressively, they struggled to create any further good chances.

At half-time substitute Shaun Jefferies came on to give Calne a much needed boost and after 55 minutes it was Jefferies who set up Jamie Davies to score from a tight angle.

The game then really opened up as both teams threw men forward in search of another goal. Nick Cawley of Calne Eagles came closest to scoring when his shot was well blocked on the line.

In the dying minutes, as a tiring Calne pushed men forward in search of an equaliser, Seend scored a further two goals through Dan Humphrey and Danny Griffith.
