TROWBRIDGE have made a sparkling start to their campaign after comfortably maintaining their 100 per cent record away to Malmesbury.

The hosts won the toss and opted to bat but failed to take advantage as they were bowled out for just 90 runs in little over 35 overs.

Scott Mitchell was the pick of Trowbridge’s bowlers as he picked up four wickets for 28 runs and he was assisted by Luke Seymour, who took three for just ten runs.

The target set was no trouble for the visitors as they wrapped up the win within 14 overs.

“It was a very good day and pretty much a dream start to the season for us,” said captain Mike Reynolds, who topped scored with 37 not out.

“It was a really good start from the bowlers and I think Luke (Seymour) set the tone for us early on.

“Him and Scott (Mitchell), doing the same job as he did before, got us off to a good start with the ball.

“He is up there with the leading wicket-takers at the moment in the WEPL, so I couldn’t really ask for much more from him.

“Both weeks now, we have got the opposition out for low scores - 102 last week and 90 this week, and hopefully we can continue that form.

“It is massively important. It is a bit of captain’s dream when you know you can throw anybody the ball and you know they are going to perform for you.

“Especially Scott at the moment. Although he does bang on about his figures a bit in the changing room, it is better that than him going for a lot of runs and it is good for the team.”

Trowbridge will now prepare for a trip to Winsley on Saturday and will be hoping to continue their fine start, which has come as no surprise to Reynolds.

“It is definitely how we were expecting to start,” he added. “We had a really good pre-season. I don’t think we lost a game.

“We batted well pre-season and bowled well pre-season and had a really good build up to the first game.

“We just bowled really well and we haven’t had to do much batting but I am sure we will be tested in the next couple of games.

“I think the team is in a really good position for next week.”

Winsley will also go into Saturday’s game full of confidence as they secured a single-wicket win over Purton.

Despite a good wicket, Purton could only score 125 before they were skittled out in 33 overs, with Nick Gerrish (4-19) the pick of the bowlers.

However, the visitors made a hard task of reaching the low target and it was down to tail-enders Kevin Hendy and Kegan Smart to get them over the line with one wicket to spare.

Meanwhile, it was not a good weekend for Westbury as they fell to a 56-run defeat away to Devizes.

Alex Senneck (4-22) kept the hosts to a respectable target of 141 but the visitors were unable to chase it down as they slumped to 85 all out, with Senneck top-scoring with 26.
