WARMINSTER are still awaiting their first Dorset & Wilts One South away win of the season after slipping to defeat at Oakmeadians.

The amber and blues were forced to make a number of changes from the previous week’s victory over Ivel Barbarians, with Alex Jenkins, Dean Priestman, Lewis Noble, Dan McIntyre and the Pinnell twins all unavailable.

Scrum-half Jason Sprangle was forced into an unfamiliar outside centre role with 17 year old second row Alex Geddes handed a debut.

Warminster had the better of the early exchanges but were unable to find a way through and the hosts took the lead with a close-range try.

However Warminster responded as centre Jack McIntyre finished an excellent individual score., scything through the backline.

Warminster continued to press and were awarded a penalty in front of the posts which Sprangle slotted over. But they were struggling at the breakdown and the inevitable sin-binning arrived as number eight Reid Curtis was yellow-carded.

Oakmeadians took full advantage of the extra man scoring a try from the subsequent penalty but Warminster nearly hit back when Connor McPherson took the high ball and offloaded to skipper John McCreadie whose barnstorming run couldn’t quite set up a score.

Oaks scored a third try right on the half-time whistle for a 17-8 lead and two early tries in the second half effectively ruined Warminster’s chances of victory.

The amber blues did gain a second try, again through a superb individual score from McIntyre, who received the ball on halfway, handed off his opposite man, then rounded the full back to go over.

Sprangle added the conversion, but two more scores re-established the hosts’ control, Warminster’s cause not helped by the red-carding of prop Steve Rowbotham fro questioning a decision before winger Herbeline Biscette went over late on.
