SKIPPER Callum Hurn saluted his pack as Melksham clinched a bonus-point win in their first Dorset & Wilts One North home match of the season.

Skipper Callum Hurn said: "The forwards were fantastic, getting us going on the front foot, with three forwards' tries and two backs' tries giving us the win.

"(The) forwards and backs linked well and playing as a team secured our win.''

The first quarter was a dogged battle from both teams, Swindon having the better of the territory.

But the home team defended well, turning the tables and enabling Scott Davis to force through for the first try.

Approaching half time, the hosts were camped on the visitors’ line, Swindon defending well until Nick Suter broke the stalemate and scored, Gareth Evans adding the conversion On the restart Melksham's control began to ramp up.

Good hands from skipper Hurn found Callum Gillard out on the wing to go in for his first of the season.

Melksham dominated at the scrum, providing ball out for the backs to show good handling skills with David Dyke making an unselfish pass to Charlie Radcliffe to score under the posts, Evans adding the extras.

The visitors continued to battle forward and were rewarded with a try out wide but Melksham responded immediately with a quick ball out to Matt Glover, running on an inside line to score, Evans adding the extras.

Swindon added a second in the final moments.
