WARMINSTER claimed a hard-fought victory at Wimborne seconds.

The visitors were slow out of the blocks as they allowed Wimborne easy territory from ill-discipline.

Warminster took the lead when 18-year-old centre Jack McIntyre burst from his own 22, beating a number of tackles to go in under the posts. Full-back Lewis Noble added the extras.

Wimborne replied with a simple penalty in front of the posts before they found a gap in the Warminster defence to go in for a converted score.

The visitors responded with two penalties from Noble, but not after they had been reduced to 14 men when flanker James Rowbotham was sent to the sin bin for misuse of the boot to take a 13-10 lead into the break.

In the second half, Warminster became dominant in the scrums, with the tight five of Matty Dunford, Dan Woods, Steve Rowbotham, Nick Leach and skipper John McCredie having the upper hand.

But Wimborne managed to once again take the lead with a converted score when a quick tap penalty caught the Amber and Blues napping, to allow the hosts’ openside to cross the whitewash.

However, that lead was short-lived as back-rower Reid Curtis, at the back of a Warminster maul, powered over to make it 18-17.

With 10 minutes remaining, Josh Smith nipped in to score after some good work from scrum-half Haydn Tryhorn. Noble added the conversion.

The Amber and Blues were now looking for a bonus-point fourth try, but increased their lead further when sensibly opting to take a penalty shot at goal, the visitors streaking ahead at 28-17.

Before the game finished, Wimborne were able to add a third try of their own when they pounced on the loose ball and hacked it through to beat the defence to grab an unconverted score.
