BRADFORD on Avon head coach Dave George felt his side didn’t get the rub of the green as their Dorset & Wilts Vase challenge was ended by Swindon College Old Boys.

The visitors booked a place in the final against Weymouth as they pulled clear in the second half at Ashley Lane to win 29-3.

George admitted his side had come up against a quality College unit, but reckoned his troops were unfortunate not to make more of an impact, especially in the first half.

Bradford piled on the pressure in the first half, but were left bemused by a decision to award them only a penalty, rather than penalty try as Chas Burwell was shoved aside as he chased a kick, then saw Owen Martin stripped of the ball as he went over the line.

College grabbed a 10-0 half-time lead through tries by Steve Oxley and Charlie Grabe.

Jack Kimber added to the College tally after half-time and although Bradford did manage to get on the board through a penalty from centre Will Slark, the away side wrapped up their final place in the final quarter with scores from Stuart Knight and Damon Murphy, both converted by Grabe.

George said: “In the first half particularly I think we edged it and were camped in their half and 22 for long periods.

“There was the penalty try that wasn’t given - we thought it should have been - and then Owen Martin was stripped.

“It was a litmus test for us for when we play the likes of Corsham (in Dorset & Wilts One North). They (College) were physical and well-organised.

“The cup was fun while it lasted but we’ll concentrate on the league now.’’
