TROWBRIDGE won’t be feeling down heading into their Christmas break after coming from behind to secure back-to-back wins.

Combe Down took a surprise lead when a mix-up at the back allowed an aimless kick to turn into a unconverted try, which was added to with a penalty kick to give the hosts an eight-point advantage.

However, Dan Jeffries’ troops regrouped and were soon within striking distance when Dave Martin came away with a try, converted by Tom Weaver.

James Davis then came off the bench to claim another converted score, only for Combe to respond with their own.

Max Day put the visitors back ahead before Combe were reduced to 14 men for 10 minutes and Trowbridge capitalised to put a stranglehold on the game.

Day got his second of the afternoon before Dan Smith was on the end of a pushover try to give Trowbridge a 16-point cushion.

Following several penalties on the opposition line, skipper Scott Williams scored to wrap up the 38-15 win to the delight of Jeffries.

“It turned into a good result,” he said.

“The first five minutes we were good, we looked like we were going to control the game and the travelling had got out of our legs quickly.

“However, there was a bit of confusion between our full-back and winger on a quite aimless kick, which resulted in them scoring.

“That then got their tails up and made it a bit more of a contest than we were expecting in the opening stages.

“From that point on, our forwards took control but it was still quite dangerous out wide.

“They were really good in open play but we probably had the edge on them up front and that pressure led to them getting a yellow card and that was our window to pull away in the fixture.”

Trowbridge are now up to third as a result of their win, eight points off leaders Swanage and Wareham as they head into the three week Christmas break.
