Calne Youths welcomed Colerne to the Rec on Sunday and were determined to revenge their (away) defeat to Colerne earlier in the season.

To accommodate their visitors Calne agreed to play two 12 a side (contact) matches and Tag rugby match for the younger players.

In the Tag match, the home side were very unlucky to lose (11-12) but showed that Calne’s future was in good hands with strong performances from Oscar Purbrick, Lucy Redding and the rest of their team.

In the “contact” match it was another very close game with both teams impressing the many supporters with their handling skills. Colerne had a number of fast runners and their tackling and forward play was awesome as they quickly scored the first try of the game.

But Calne were fired up by this early score and Captain Sam Cooper lead front the front as his team stepped up to the mark.

Ben Kimble, John Redding, Jamie Palmer, Marley North and scrum half Craig Jordan put in great performances but it was Colerne who outscored their hosts to claim the first match by one try.

After a break, the two sides kicked off again and this time Calne would not be denied as they played their best rugby to date.

The coaching team looked on as belief flowed through the team. Colerne performed very well again to keep the game a close affair but it was Calne who finished the game stronger to claim their first win 6-4.

Calne Youths travel to Pewsey Vale this Sunday and will be full of confidence as they look to finish the season strongly.

Coach and Coordinator Chris Austin was delighted with his teams and said: “Colerne and Calne are evenly matched and I would like to thank them for a great day and look forward to many more.

Its fantastic to get a win under our belts and we look forward to building on it.
