Mr Tim Patton 1949-2015
FORMER Wiltshire Times compositor Tim Patton died on May 15, aged 66, at Lyme Regis Nursing Home, when he lost a three-year battle with cancer.
He was the middle son of the late Hugh Patton of Bradford on Avon, who had a shop in Kingsmead Square, Bath.
He began his working life with an apprenticeship at Hardings of Bathampton, and then moved to work in the comp room at the Wiltshire Times on Duke Street, where the paper was still printed on a hot metal press at the back of the building.
He worked there for about 10 years, and during this time also worked part-time behind the bar at the Rose and Crown, Hinton Charterhouse, and then at the Hope and Anchor at Midford. In 1983 when the landlord of the Hope and Anchor bought the Royal Lion Hotel in Lyme Regis, Mr Patton moved with him to take up the post of bar manager at the Royal Lion.
He leaves his older brother Mike and younger sister Gill.
His funeral service will take place at Yeovil Crematorium on Thursday, May 28 at 2.40pm, followed by a gathering at his local, The Royal Oak in Charmouth.
Family flowers only please. Donations in his memory can be sent to A J Wakely and Sons, Silver Street, Lyme Regis, DT7 3HR
to be given to the Weldmar Hospice Trust and Cancer Research UK.
