Further to Duncan Hames’ column in the Wiltshire Times (August 15) where he praised the sight of Danny Talbot from Trowbridge running against Usain Bolt in the Commonwealth Games, and the subsequent very successful European Athletics Championship, we should spare a thought to the demise of the athletics track at Christie Miller as building work starts on the Herman Miller facility on the land.
Despite what Cllr Jonathan Seed feels about youngsters going to Bath University Track to train, a lot of parents are not able, or do not have the finance, to take their offspring to Bath two or three times a week.
Even if they can there is a waiting list as the club is over capacity. The track at Bath is in Avon, Wiltshire does not have an equivalent facility.
I would therefore ask Wiltshire Council to consider replacing the Christie Miller track with one in Trowbridge and let us set in motion the athletics careers of more Wiltshire youngsters.
Alan Hayes,( UKA Coach), Polebarn Road, Trowbridge.
