The Prime Minister recently announced that he would aim to produce £7.2 billion worth of savings which would cover the cost of the proposed tax cuts etc. after 2015. Apart from the £9plus million to be dispensed in foreign aid it is reported that £16.6 billion has been given in subsidies to offshore wind farms and other green energy projects and that the budget for green energy subsidies in 2020 is £7.6 billion.
Apart from the foreign aid cash, which we are going to have to borrow, why are we straining to produce green energy at enormous cost and as far as wind power is concerned, very inefficiently. The UK produces some two per cent of the world’s carbon emissions and if we were able to reduce this to zero it would make very little difference to the world total.
It is high time we realised that we are a small country, heavily in debt, and in no position to hand out subsidies and foreign aid.
