I was very sorry to learn that the Association of the Friends of St Martin’s Hospital, Bath, was disbanded through lack of support and wish to express my appreciation of the tremendous contribution that the members made towards the welfare of patients and staff over a number of years and also their help in fundraising for the hospital.

Some of this work will continue and the above was replaced by the Sirona Foundation Trust, St Martin’s Hospital, Clara Cross Lane, Bath BA2 5RP.

I am sure your readers may not know about the Eddie Cochran Project. It is based at St Martin’s Hospital. Apart from his outstanding Memorial Stone (which was very expensive), there is also a very nice sundial, placed at the back of the old chapel, where fans from all over the world place lovely flowers next to his stone. This new address is where all rock ‘n’ roll fans and other interested people can make a donation in memory of this great star.

We know that Eddie Cochran would be very proud of his fans and would support this campaign for this famous old hospital. All the money given to the hospital is spent on the wards for the care of older people. I would like to thank all the people who have made donations to this hospital over many years.

The Eddie Cochran Memorial Plaque, which was placed at Rowden Hill, Chippenham, is also very important for all of his fans and is another part of the project.

The release of one of the best teenage films, Untamed Youth (1957) starring Mamie Van Doren with Eddie Cochran in a prominent role, is about kids picking cotton near Bakersfield, California. The song Cotton Picker, still unreleased in this country, is from that movie. Eddie Cochran was killed in a car crash on April 17, 1960 but his music and films are still in great demand.
