Residents of Bradford on Avon will have received notification of the parish vote regarding the Historic Core Zone project for the town.

As a resident and business owner in the town for over 25 years I have participated in several ‘traffic problem’ debates and discussions with little in the way of any constructive ideas emerging.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see the town has limited options (yes, we would all love a bypass, and pigs would love to fly too).

However, the recent Taming the Traffic consultation and stakeholders’ workshops which took place over a full 12 months or so involved the entire town. All town homes were leafleted, all interested individuals and community interest and other stakeholder groups were invited, met and debated the options and choices.

Wiltshire Council provided professional traffic consultants, and the debates were lively and far-reaching.

The outcome was that the town decided that the Historic Core Zone plan was the best option for the town.

The overwhelming majority of business owners and people I talk to in the town are in favour of this scheme, which will make for a better pedestrian experience for everyone, visitors and locals alike.

The scaremongering over the suggested risks from the replacement of zebra crossings by multiple clearly indicated courtesy crossings, simply don’t make sense.
